Occupational health and safety
NLMK aims to consistently improve its occupational safety indicators and provide for the better safety of its operations. All activities related to the prevention industrial injuries are performed in accordance with the Labor Protection & Industrial Safety Regulations and the statutory rules of the Russian Federation.
Occupational health and safety expenditure per employee has increased by 5.5 times since 2000.*
Since 2001 the number of occupational casualties has decreased by 1.33 times.
The accident frequency rate has fallen by 2.8 times (from 2.48 in 1996 to 0.88 in 2008).*
Professional development
In 2008 more than 24,600 employees participated in different educational programmes, such as retraining programmes, second qualifications, and enhancing professional skills through special courses. Training is conducted onsite, at NLMK’s Corporate Training Center and in other educational institutions.
