History

1931

Novolipetsk Iron and Steel Works began construction of an iron and steel plant at the Lipetsk iron ore mine.     

 

1934

First pig iron produced. 

 

1947

Reconstruction of plant began, after being dismantled during World War II.

 

1960

Production of cold-rolled non-grain-oriented steel began.  

 

1980

Production of cold-rolled carbon steel began.  

 

1992

NLMK formed as an open joint stock company on 31 December. 

 

1993

Privatisation of NLMK begins, initially through distribution of shares to employees.  

 

mid-1990s

Significant blocks of NLMK's shares were consolidated by financial investors.

 

1997

OJSC Dolomite, miner and processor of metallurgical dolomite, acquired.  

 

1998

Management began the consolidation of its block share using both its own capital and borrowed resources. Vladimir Lisin becomes Chairman of the Board.

 

1999

OJSC Stagdok, miner and processor of fluxing limestone, acquired. 

 

2002

Management acquired a further 34% of shares.

 

2004

97% of Stoilensky GOK, iron ore supplier, acquired.    

Controlling interest in OJSC TMTP, principal operator of Black Sea port of Tuapse, acquired.  

 

2005

License for a large coking coal deposit Zhernovskoie 1 in Kuzbass region of Russia acquired at the State auction, with first coal production expected by the end of 2008.

 

2005

December 15, 2005. Successful listing of GDSs on the London Stock Exchange. Global offer comprised approximately 7.5% of NLMK's ordinary share capital.   

 

2006

First foreign asset, DanSteel A/S, Danish steel rolling company, acquired.   

Coke producer JSC "Altai-koks" and "Prokopievskugol" Group of Coal Companies acquired. 

A 100% stake in VIZ Stal, the second-largest Russian electrical steel producer, acquired.
