NLMK is one of the leaders in the Russian steel industry in terms of technological innovation. The Company's production strategy provides for technical upgrade and implementation of innovative technologies. Being commenced in 2000, Technical upgrade and development programme became a key component of our strategy.
The main objectives of the Programme:
• increase the efficiency of our production by reducing unit costs;
• increase production levels;
• improve the quality and range of our products;
• increase the production of high value-added products;
• reduce energy consumption and increase our own energy generation capacity range;
• lessen the environmental impact of our operations.
Implementation of the Phase 1 of our Technical Upgrade and Development Programme was launched in 2000. The programme was focused on reconstruction and large-scale overhauls of the existing operating facilities and construction of new facilities. It was successfully accomplished in 2005.
In 2006 the Board of Directors approved the key parameters of Phase 2 of the Technical Upgrade and Development Programme, covering the period from 2007 to 2011. The Program was developed in accordance with the sustainable growth strategy of Novolipetsk Steel , which is aimed at maintaining the Group’s position among the world’s most efficient steel companies.
In implementing all of its development projects, the Company will remain committed to the provision of occupational health and safety for its employees and the improvement of the ecological performance of its production facilities.
