NLMK is a major taxpayer in the Lipetsk region. In 2009, the Company’s taxes and other mandatory payments to the region’s consolidated budget amounted to RUR4.6 billion (c. USD 144 million). This accounts for about 39% of tax proceeds to the city budget and over 18% of the region’s consolidated budget.
Total investment into NLMK’s social programs in 2009 amounted to over RUR 1.1 billion.
NLMK annually constructs about 30,000 square meters of residential housing for its employees in Lipetsk. In total the Company built around 383,000 square meters of residential housing between1997 and 2009. In early 2008 NLMK won the city tender to develop a plot for two housing estates in Lipetsk. Over the next seven years 385,000 square meters of housing, schools, kindergartens and a health centre will be built over a 49-hectare area.
Over the past four years NLMK’s employee compensation has increased by 20-30% annually. Non-State Pension Fund Sotsialnoe Razvitie (Social Development), founded by the Company, is among 20 of the most successful Russian non-state pension funds. On a monthly basis NLMK transfers an amount equal to the employee’s contribution to the fund.
NLMK supports sports organizations, has built a shooting complex in Lipetsk and an Olympic shooting complex in Kon-Kolodez village. The Company has equipped 52 sports grounds in Lipetsk. NLMK also supports educational initiatives, offering grants to university students.
