Lloyd's Register confirmed high quality of NLMK's metal
The routine Certification Audit of certain products made by an authoritative international classification body - Lloyd's Register (UK) - has been completed in Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Corporation.
NLMK's cooperation with this body lasts for about ten years. In the beginning of 1990s Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Corporation became one of the first companies of the industry that were given the Lloyd's Register conformity certificate for several shipbuilding steel grades.
Based on the audit results, auditor confirmed conformity of NLMK's products to the high requirements of the Lloyd's Register. Properties of hot rolled shipbuilding material produced in the Company proved to be stable and the certification testing confirmed this.
In course of the audit, a prospect of the future cooperation of NLMK and the Lloyd's Register in relation to the Company's other products certification was discussed. This will broaden the Company's possibilities of participation in different international tenders and help to raise the Company's competitiveness in the world market.
The Technical Reequipment Program being implemented by NLMK nowadays and its quality policy are aimed at production of products fully coming up to expectations and meeting requirements of customers. The Company's metal products are delivered in accordance with national standards of the leading countries: ASTM, EN, DIN, JIS, BS, API, SAE. Since 1995 to 2001 share of NLMK's products supplied according to these standards increased from 42 up to 73%. The Company's products quality, high technical and organizational level of production are certified by several trustworthy Russian and foreign bodies.
According to Yuri Atjakshev, the Lloyd's Register auditor, " Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Corporation now is the industry leader for its program of production modernization". Within the frames of the Program, NLMK introduces a new certifying equipment helping to control many parameters of product quality. This year the Company has spent more than 12 million rubles for this purpose. In the nearest future the Company is planning to introduce unique equipment for automatic control of rolled products surface quality.
Now Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Corporation is working on certification of new products, preparing for Environment Management System certification in accordance with MS ISO 14001, and for the repeated certification of Quality System according MS ISO 9002.
