In 2002 NLMK invested more than 0.5 billion rubles into the social sphere
In 2002 the Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Corporation spent for realization of social programs 523 million rubles.
The expenditures for development of health protection, provision of NLMK workers with medical treatment in sanatoria and health resorts made 280 million rubles. Now more than 900 patients can be treated simultaneously in special departments of the clinic, thousands of NLMK employees are given sanatoria and preventive clinics treatment and live in rest camps.
From 1999 under the patronage of Novolipetsk Iron & Steel Corporation Social Protection Foundation "Miloserdiye" was organized. The money, put on the account of the Foundation, are directed to realization of 11 charity programs, covering all fields of social sphere. Only in 2002 "Miloserdiye" spent 165 million rubles for these programs.
NLMK's payments to non-governmental pension fund increased by 20 % from the last year. That will guarantee an additional pension from Non-governmental Pension Fund "Social Development" for the retirees of NLMK, apart from governmental pension, which they will also receive. Besides NLMK arranges for its retirees free medical treatment, sanatoria and preventive clinical treatment, medicines and medical equipment (wheel chairs for invalids, hearing aids etc.), as well as financial help.
NLMK increased running costs for kindergartens, financial support of basic special educational institutions and for paying scholarship to the best students of Lipetsk Technical University. In 2002 they made 101 million rubles, which is 17 % higher than the level of the last year. NLMK's expenses for supplying special financial help to its workers raise almost thrice, also for paying additional vacations for family reasons.
In the recent years social policy of the company acquired holistic and systemic character, that very well reflected on production and economical performances. In 2002 NLMK became a winner of the 3rd All Russian Competition "Russian Institution of High Social Efficiency" in the category "Metal Industry". This prize became a remark of high results of the company in the sphere of social protection for NLMK workers, as well as participation in social programs of Lipetsk region.
