DanSteel A/S was established in 2002 in continuation of Danish Steel Works Ltd., which was founded in 1940. DanSteel produces around half a million tonnes of hot rolled steel heavy plates and maintains up-to-date customized production facilities. The total number of employees at DanSteel A/S is 442 as at 31 December 2007, with 359 employees in the production and 83 salaried staff.
DanSteel A/S' production facilities consist of reheating furnaces, single stand rolling facility, slitting and cutting lines, heat treatment furnaces (normalisation), shot blasting and priming as well as plasma cutting (of hot-rolled plates). The new hot leveller was commissioned. In 2007 we opened a new service centre for additional cutting and treatment of plates for wind power plants constructors and producing segments of flat products.
The slabs represent nearly 80% of DanSteel A/S cost structure. NLMK has a long-standing client relationship with DanSteel, being its major supplier of quality steel slabs since 2002.
The product range includes structural steel, shipbuilding steel and steel for boilers and pressure vessels. DanSteel A/S can offer its customers plates with up to 16 tonnes as well as thicknesses with up to 125 mm. The company has its own harbour from where approximately 70% of its production is loaded on coasters and transported directly to the customers. In January 2006 NLMK acquired a 100% stake of DanSteel A/S. In early 2007 100% of DanSteel A/S shares were transferred to the books of NLMK International BV, unifying NLMK’s foreign assets and interests.
In 2005, DanSteel A/S has implemented an Energy Management System, which is certified according to Danish Standard DS2403-2001. Production methods are continuously modernised, and the primary source of energy today is natural gas.
